During Palm Sunday mass in the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria terrorists detonated bombs. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks. This is becoming an alarming pattern of terrorists targeting Christian celebrations.
Palm Sunday celebrates Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem when the people laid palms on the ground while he entered. Those palms are burned the following year and used to make the shape of the cross upon the forehead to remind us of mourning, and our mortality, “we were made from ashes, and to ashes we shall return, ashes to ashes, dust to dust”. ISIS can burn all the palms in the world, but they will never silence the great message of Christianity or do anything but embolden our resolve.
